How to move around in Kenya and how to reach one city after the other one? You are on the right spot here.
Kenyan roads are, as usual bumpy, dusty and adventurous. You see a motorcycle taxi/ Boda Boda waiting for a client on every corner. Also, they have Tuk-Tuks here. The more comfortable, 'safe' option is also more pricy. For long-distance, you can book a seat on a big bus. Also, they have private taxis, which are, as always, in my opinion, way too expensive. On top of that, the long distance-cheap-options: the Matatu. I prefer those, they usually have a fixed price, and you can travel super local and crazy.
Here is the roundabout price list for transportation, be aware that there can be significant differences.
Matatu
It always depends but let's give an example: for a 3-hour ride from Naivasha to Nairobi, we paid around 500 KS each. Those have been Corona prices, though.
Motorcycle Boda-Boda
1 Person: 50 KS, 2 Persons: 150 KS -> ride length: 15 min
1 person: 100 KS, 2 Person: 250 KS -> ride length: 30 min
Some of them don't take two people at once because they are scared of the police - officially, it is not allowed to carry two; the price depends on the distance.
TukTuk
Independent from the number of people, usually two fit inside perfectly. Three is also acceptable, but it could be tight. Quite pricy sometimes, but it always depends on negotiations.
Trip length 15min: 250 KS
30min: 550 KS
Taking those transportation options is, on the one hand, side fun and, on the other hand, always a bit stressful. So try to negotiate, especially ask for the price and clear the price before starting the drive. Afterward, they might be angry or bossy and usually ask for way more if you didn't clarify the conditions initially.
