Visit Moray, the Salt Mines and the Sacred Valley, Peru

Those three attractions are commonly offered tours starting from Cusco. You can decide to take either a one-day or two-day trip. We booked our trip in combination with lake Humanity as a whole two-day trip.

Walking into a few offices in Cusco and comparing prices, they offered us ok prices; however, haggling the price was still possible. Here is a list of available tours that are most popular.

Tour Package: Lake Humanity + Salt Mines + Moray + Sacred Valley

We booked a combined tour including the Lake Humanity for approx. 600S pP. It was a good offer for three days of adventure and all those attractions. Find out more about lake Humanity in my extra blog about it!

Moray + Salt Mines + Sacred Valley:

The tour guide picked us up at 7 am from the hotel, and the tour started. So be prepared to have breakfast at home, because lunch will be served at around 1 pm. After a two-hour drive, we stopped at the small village called Chinerco, where the locals showed us some facts about their culture and handmade clothes. It was ok; I guess most of you have seen things like that before. They also have a big shop where you can buy sweaters, wallets, shawls, etc again.

We continued and first stopped at Muray - the Inka platforms. Fascinating structures in the earth, our tour guide was passionate about sharing Spanish and English history and facts. You have enough time to take some good pictures. Next stop after 30 min of drive, the Salt mines. The view is great, driving down the hill with the salty ponds in the valley. This day some locals were working there, and you could follow their procedure to win the salt. It is a small loop walk for around 30 min, the tour guide will inform you quite well. We passed to the lunch spot by a shop that offers different kinds of salt and chocolate handmade from this area. Lunch was amazing. There is an extensive buffet in a beautifully designed hall, with starter and salad, main dishes, and dessert. Only drinks were not included and were pricy.

After getting some rest, the long drive continued to our last spot for the day - the Sacred Valley. You can leave your backpacks in a shop in town, and we hiked up a hill with around 200 stairs on another old Inka village. Unfortunately, the city is mostly broken, and only some bricks are left. But the view is breathtaking. Looking over the valley, surrounded by characteristic mountains. Hiking up takes around 15 min and is feasible.

People that booked a one-day tour will take the bus back to Cusco. The other ones, like us, needed to take a train to the next town, Aguas Calientes. Your tour guide will give you the train ticket and explain how to go to the train station. This ride will still take around 2hours so that you arrive in the evening at 8 pm at the hotel.

Our hotel was Allpa Inn. The room is good, hot shower, a bit cold but enough for one night.
