How safe is traveling here? How is the peoples personality? What do I have to expect?

My first impression of the Kenyan people was: they are darker than Ugandan people, and you can see a different shape of their faces. Here it is less touristic so it was more challenging to move around in the country. On the coast it was ok, there is tourism and there are known places. But in the middle of nowhere, in small towns, we even had the problem to get cash to pay for the next bus. We needed to take a Boda-Boda for 30 min one way to go to the next ATM. So simply be prepared for wonderful simplicity and non-developed places. Still, the towns, the roads were more modern than in Uganda.
You can find fast food stores everywhere, big supermarkets and restaurants with different kinds of food. People are in general a bit less friendly, or let's say rough. Often they tried to trick us, the most simply guesthouses were still pricy. As in Uganda, people can still be, for sure open-minded and support you, talk to you and try to make friends. Enjoy the mentality, the craziness of those people!
Just stay self-confident and pay attention to your valuable things. Ask the locals, maybe your guesthouse owner or a Boda-Boda driver which area is safe and if you can stay outside as a tourist in the evening. They know the clans, groups and they also know where there are at night.
