A different experience compared to general Safari trips. It is a must-do-thing!
Everything in Africa bites. But the safari bug is worst of all. ~ Brian Jackman
There are a lot of different attractive national parks in Kenya. We have chosen that one because of the notable fact of cycling through it and seeing wild animals even closer than usual. You can reach it best starting from Naivasha, and it takes around 1 hour on the road. Here we also decided to take a Boda. We convinced one driver to take us both ways and wait for us at the park entrance for 2.000KS and a free beer afterward.
At the entrance, you will pass by a gate to buy the entry ticket and rent a bicycle. Getting the bike costs $5 p.p. and the entry ticket $30 p.p. You can also negotiate about the bike price here. The park itself is not that big but offers a variety of nature.
Landscape
The landscape is a wide, open plate surrounded by a circle
of mountains, the border of the volcano crater. Protected by that, many animals came here to live like Zebras, Giraffes, and Buffaloes. From now on, you can ride forever through the park. Reaching the other side takes around 1 hour. During that trip, you will get to a more bushy area like the entrance of the Gorge Canyon or the area around the highest stone formation, the Fischers Tower.
Ol Njorowa Gorge
You will reach a wooden building at some point, and you can buy expensive water and get a tour to the Gorge canyon. They said even Tomb Raider was filmed in here. You can't explore it by yourself, so it is obligated to get a guide, we paid approx. 700KS. This canyon tour takes around 30 min one way. In the start, you will hike down a narrow wild path through lots of bushes and wilderness, then continue walking along a riverbed and following the water towards the canyon. This formation is incredible, an imposing canyon winding through nature, including some smaller waterfalls. The guide informs about some historical facts and shows the area of Tomb Raider. Walking around is fun and quite adventurous; the tour was fine, and I would say it is worth it - good contrast and addition to Hells Gates's vast landscape.
KenGen Geysers
To see the Geysires, you can choose the more extended guided tour. We didn't do that, but it would take around 45 minutes to walk one way and reach three light blue Geysires.
